The newest match that we offer in our club is something that anyone can enjoy. You don't need a lot of experience to shoot in this fun sport and it is relatively inexpensive. We call it air gun fun matches.
Just about any kind of air gun will work. For those of you who have an inexpensive air rifle, it can be shot in the "production" class. This would be perfect for some of the Crosman's, Beeman's, Gamo's and RWS guns. It would also include some of the older single stroke pnuematic's, CO2's and spring piston guns. We also have another class for the more expensive rifles that cost over $700-$800. This lets you shoot against others who have a gun that will perform about like yours.
In addition to the rifles, we have matches for pistols. Just like the rifles, they will require a scope and you need to have at least a 9x scope with adjustable objective. A 16x scope would really help when shooting at the tiny paper targets which is done at 18 yards.
All shooting is done indoors in the main club house and matches are held during the winter on Fridays at 9 a.m. During the summer we meet on Monday mornings at 9 a.m. We shoot 3 short matches off of a bench and the cost is only $4 for a morning of fun. We are usually through by 11 a.m.
So, all you need is a rifle or pistol with a good scope, some pellets and a front and rear rest of your choosing for your gun.
Pellets are cheap and readily available, making this an inexpensive way to have a lot of fun in a wonderful indoor facility.
