Everybody has a modern or vintage military type rifle!!

If you are looking for a fun way to increase your proficiency in the field with most any modern or vintage
military rifle, our newest “Games Match” may be what you’re looking for. The OKCGC Highpower
Division is proud to announce that we will be running GSM (Garand, Springfield, Modern Military)
Matches monthly, starting in January. The Civilian Marksmanship Program came up with this match as a
training opportunity and it is a qualification course for the purchase of surplus rifles, pistols and
ammunition directly from the CMP.

The following course of fire is shot from the 200yd line:

  • 25 shots slow fire prone: The shooter first fires 5 sighting shots then 20 record shots, one shot
  • loaded at a time, in a time limit of 25 minutes.
  • 10 shots rapid fire standing to prone: The shooter fires a magazine of 2 rounds, changes
  • magazines and fires 8 more rounds in a time limit of 80 seconds.
  • 10 shots rapid fire standing to kneeling or sitting: The shooter fires a magazine of 2 rounds,
  • changes magazines and fires 8 more rounds in a time limit of 70 seconds.
  • 10 shots slow fire standing: The shooter fires 10 shots, one shot loaded at a time, with a time
  • limit of 10 minutes.

Here’s what you need to get started:

  • Hearing and eye protection
  • Rifle (AR-15, AR-10, SKS, M1 Garand, Springfield, 1903 Springfield, FN-FAL, SVT, AK, M1A, M14,
  • and so on, just ask the match director if you’re unsure. Our intent is to get you shooting!)
  • 2 magazines, clips, or stripper clips
  • 55 rounds of ammo (no tracers, armor piercing, or incendiary ammo allowed)

You say you don’t know what you’re doing? PERFECT!! This is as much an opportunity to train with some
very competent riflemen as it is a friendly competition. There will be a 15-minute orientation and
training period before the match leading into the firing of sighting shots. You will be assigned a CMP
Highpower classified “coach” to help you through the orientation and course of fire unless you don’t
want assistance.

Registration will begin at 8:00 at the Main Clubhouse and the matches start at 9:00. The match fee is $10 to help us cover targets and supplies. The
matches are open to members and nonmembers alike so please spread the word. If a kid is big enough to hold up a rifle, he or she is welcome too!

See the match program on our web site for more information.
