2020 Spring Trap League

The Shotgun Division of the Oklahoma City Gun Club will host an eight (8) week Spring Trap League beginning Monday March 16, 2020 and ending on Monday
May 4, 2020. The league is open to all OKC Gun Club members and non-members as well.

The league welcomes all skill levels of shooters using any type of shotgun in 12 gauge or smaller and shooting size 7.5 shot or smaller.

Cost of the league will be $80.00 for each participant.  Fees are due on the first day of shooting and may be paid by check or in cash.  The cost includes targets, hot dogs and prizes to be awarded at the conclusion of the league.

Shooters will be part of a Squad of up to 5 shooters.  Shooting times will be 3:00-4:00; 4:00-5:00; 5:00-6:00; or 6:00-7:30.  This schedule will accommodate 70 shooters. If your schedule permits, please sign up for one of the early shooting times, i.e. 3:00 or 4:00.

  • Each shooter will shoot a total of 400 targets; 50 targets per week.
  • The first four weeks of the league will be shot from the 16 yard line (Singles).
  • The second four weeks of the league will be shot from the 18, 20, or the 22 yard line (Handicap).  All members of the squad will shoot from the same yardage line.
  • Squads with a combined average of 20 or more from the first four weeks of Singles shooting will shoot all their Handicap targets from the 22 yard line.
  • Squads with a combined average of 18 or more and less than 20 from the four weeks of Singles shooting will shoot all their Handicap targets from the 20 yard line.
  • Squads with a combined average of less than 18 from the first four weeks of Singles shooting will shoot all their Handicap targets from the 18 yard line.

Prizes will be awarded to individual members of the winning squads. The plan is to distribute prizes on a day to be determined after May 4, 2020. All participants will be notified of the day by email.

Prizes will be awarded based on a modified Lewis Class Purse system.  Some may be familiar with this and some may not.  You can Google "Lewis Class Purse" and find quite a bit of information about Lewis Class Purses.  Supposedly, the system gives "every team an equal chance to win, no matter what their shooting  ability is."  Opinions seem to vary on the accuracy of the foregoing statement.

Shooters may make up targets, or shoot ahead for any weeks that they are absent, however all singles targets must be shot by sunset on April 5, 2020 (and scores submitted to me on the same evening) to allow time for calculation of handicap yardage.  All handicap targets must be shot by the end of shooting on May 4, 2020.  Missing scores will be replaced with a dog score (shooter's average minus two targets).

When registering for the league, please indicate if you have a group that you would like to shoot with and your shooting time preference (3:00; 4:00; 5:00 or 6:00).

If you are interested in participating, or would like more details, please contact Kenneth Mayfield via email (preferred) at kmayfield@phxactitle.com  or send a text to 405-990-8881.  There will also be a sign-up sheet on the desk in the Shotgun Division Club House.
